SWISS INSTITUTE OF LONGEVITY
Concept
There are many research activities in Europe, but generally it is difficult to commercialise the research results. Creating a startup or spinoff company must not but can be a good option to commercialise the research results.
The challenge is to combine the right topic and scientists with the right people to realise the commercial potential. We have unique experience in the commercialisation of research projects by founding a startup company together with the scientists. In these startups we are very involved operationally and bring in our expertise from other successful startup projects.
The conceptional background is the Founding Angels business model (www-founding-angels.com) which was developed based on successfully executed Founding Angel projects:
- TES Triton Environmental Solutions, as a spinoff from Evonik Industries, developed a waste water treatment technology which was sold to Triton Water in Germany in 2009.
- Butalco, as a spinoff from the Goethe University in Frankfurt, developed a technology platform for the production of biofuels which was sold to the French company Lesaffre in 2014.
- Dispendix, as a spinoff from the Fraunhofer Society, developed contactless nanolitre dispensing equipment for the pharma industry which was sold to the Swedish company Cellink in 2018.
In all these cases research results were successfully commercialised with low risk for all participants as the founders worked part-time for the projects during the starting phase. A smart cooperation and partnering strategy enabled the startups to grow without extensive usage of risk capital.
